The Diode laser is the gold standard in laser hair removal. Treatments are a safe, non-invasive, and long-term solution for permanently removing hair, especiallyon those with light skin and dark hair.

The long-pulsed Nd: Yag laser is considered the safest wavelength for hair removal for all skin types, especially the darker ones. Its outstanding speed makes for faster treatments: A man’s entire back in 15 minutes, or 2 full legs in under 30 minutes.

How to prepare:

Patients are advised to stop all other forms of hair removal (waxing, plucking, threading) except shaving for 6-8 weeks before commencing laser hair removal. Prior to the procedure, the treatment area must be shaved. Patients must also ensure that their skin is not tanned.

There are some important factors to keep in mind. There are 3 phases in hair growth: The anagen phase – the birth of a follicle. The telogen phase – the growing stage. The catagen phase – the rest period. The presence of melanin
(or pigmentation) is highest during the anagen phase. Therefore laser hair removal appointments should be scheduled to target this phase to obtain the quickest and most optimal results. Our laser specialist will work closely with you to help determine the right timing of your treatments.

Most patients require 6-8 sessions per area for complete results. For darker candidates sessions may vary.

The laser is applied to the surface of the skin, and laser energy is delivered. Highly concentrated light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles causing the pigment to be permanently destroyed. During treatment, the patient will feel heat and a sensation similar to an elastic band snapping on the skin. When treating more sensitive areas, we may suggest applying topical anesthetic to the skin to reduce discomfort. Depending on the area being treated, treatments can last anywhere from ten minutes to one hour.

Immediately following the treatment, no pain will be felt and normal activities can be resumed. The destroyed hairs will fall out on their own over time.
